This week the world witnessed global hacking group Anonymous launch cyber war attacks against Russia, as a result of their invasion of Ukraine. Numerous government websites were taken offline belonging to Russian Gazprom and Russian media RT. Overall, it’s believed Anonymous has ongoing operations to keep Russian government website offline, and to continue to inform Russian citizens.
On the other side, IPCC published a report on climate impacts and adaptation, which details how climate change is impacting nature, societies and economies, as well as what we can do to adapt in a warming world

  • Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) has formed a partnership with Modal Rakyat, a fast growing peer2peer lending company
  • Singaporean neobank IN Financial Technology (INFT) has fully acquired MyCash Money, a money transfer company focused on migrant workers, for an undisclosed sum
  • Lloyd bank has signed a new “strategic partnership” with Bink, a loyalty-focused fintech it recently invested in, connecting its vast pool of retail customers with retailers’ rewards
  • The fintech industry outpaced all other tech sectors when it came to VC funding last year — and it is off to a supercharged start in 2022
  • CommerzVentures, a German-based finTech investor has closed a 300 million euro funding round designed to support companies in the FinTech, InsurTech and climate FinTech sectors

The largest funding rounds we found from across the world
Many more deals and transactions from fintech this week! This week’s prominent fundings are shared by multiple sectors, including fintech, payments, NFT, credit cards, banking and more.
  • WiRE (Cyprus), a financial technology company WiRE, which specialises in the property market, generating analysis, business insights and data reports, announced on Wednesday the successful completion of its seed funding round of one million euros
  • Niyo (Bengaluru, IN), a consumer neo-banking platform has raised $100 million (EUR 90.74m) in a Series C funding round led by Accel, Lightrock India with the participation from Beams Fintech Fund
  • Zeller (Sidney, Australia), a neobank for SMBs, has raised a $100 million AUD (EUR 66.24m) Series B , doubling its valuation to more than $1 billion AUD (about $727 million USD)
  • Payhawk (London, UK), a fintech company, has raised an additional US$100mn (EUR 90.74m) to extend its Series B round to US$215mn, making Payhwak the first-ever Bulgarian company to achieve unicorn status
  • M-Kopa Holdings (Nairobi , Kenya), raised $75 million (EUR 68m) in growth equity after a funding round led by Generation Investment Management LLP and Broadscale Group LLC
  • Other interesting funding rounds this week: Perfios (Bengaluru, India), raised $70 Mn (EUR 63.52m) in a funding round, Weavr (London, UK) $40 million Series A, Kuhoo (Mumbai, Maharashtra), raised a whopping $20 million (EUR 18.15m) seed fund from West Bridge Capital.
