This week the euro traded at a two-decade low of 0.9903 against the U.S. dollar Tuesday morning, with analysts predicting the single currency will continue to slide, after a renewed spike in European energy prices.
Meanwhile, pollution warnings have been issued for almost 50 beaches in England and Wales, after heavy rain caused sewage overflow to be diverted into rivers and the sea.

In exactly one month, on September 16, the Amsterdam Fintech Week Summit is taking place, at the Postilion Hotel in Amsterdam.
Join us there for a full day of discussions covering both the customer experience, regulatory and technology perspective. On the main stage, we begin the day with inspiration from outside the financial sector: customer stories about what matters to them, what drives their demand, and how they serve their end-customer. We introduce three streams that will help the fintech ecosystem meet customer demand: digital enterprise, collaboration and community, and empowering customers for impact.
The afternoon program includes key notes, panels and interactive breakout sessions on three different stages, corresponding to the three streams.   • The European Central Bank (ECB) has released its intentions to form a crypto regulatory framework that aims to make how banks offer crypto assets more consistent.
  • Wirex has introduced Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) Instant and Faster Payments to its crypto platform, allowing customers in the UK and EEA to transfer British Pounds and Euros more easily between their Wirex and bank accounts.
  • The dollar index and the euro both slipped on Thursday in choppy trading as investors waited on a speech by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Friday for further clues about the ongoing pace of the U.S. central bank’s rate hikes.
  • Google Wallet is now available in South Africa, the first market for this product in Africa, to make it easy for users to save and easily and securely access their payment cards, loyalty cards and boarding passes.
  • US-based TradeSun and UK-based Coriolis Technologies have partnered to launch an integrated solution for banks to measure and verify environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance across trade transactions.

The largest funding rounds we found from across the world
New week – new closed funding rounds! This week’s funding highlights cover personal finance, software, crypto, BNPL, and many more! Take a look at some major investments of this week.
  • Pakistani fintech startup Mahaana Wealth Ltd. raised $2.1 million (EUR 2.11m) from venture capital firms VEF AB and SparkLabs Group, as well as local insurer IGI Holdings, riding a surge in investment appetite in the world’s fifth most populous nation.
  • Germany and NYC based process mining software vendor Celonis announced that it secured a whopping $1 billion in additional capital at a $13 billion post-money valuation, a mix of equity ($400 million) and debt (a five-year $600 million credit line).
  • Saudi Arabian fintech platform Tamara, which offers buy now, pay later services, raised $100 million in a series B equity round led by venture capital firm Sanabil Investments.
  • San Francisco-based fintech Pomelo has secured $20 million in venture capital and a $50 million credit facility as part of a seed funding round.
  • Startup out of Tallinn, Estonia, called Ready Player Me — which has built a popular platform for creating dynamic, animated avatars to use across virtual worlds built and operated by others — is announcing $56 million in funding to grow its business.
  • Other notable funding includes: Indian savings fintech Jar lands $22.6m in Series B funding, SMB FinTech Muse Finance Raises $20M, and Rookout raises $16M Series B to scale its developer-first observability platform.
