The Dutch digital currency, the Gulden, can now be used to make international wire transfers via Gulden’s mobile wallet for both iOS and Android smartphone users.
The Gulden is a mobile-centric cryptocurrency that has seen strong adoption in the Netherlands since its launch in 2014, with already over 50 merchants accepting it as a mean of payment. It is unique in the sense that using Gulden you cannot only make payments in Gulden, but you can also pay any bitcoin address directly. That means that you can pay using Gulden at any merchant that accepts bitcoin.
Furthermore, you are now also able to pay Euros into any European bank account, via an IBAN bank transfer, using Gulden’s mobile wallet by simply scanning an IBAN/SEPA QR code or by copying the IBAN directly into the app and making the payment.
This new IBAN payment option has been made possible through collaboration between Gulden and Dutch blockchain payments start-up Nocks.
Nocks is a blockchain-based payments platform that aims to combine new technologies with existing infrastructure for a better experience in mobile payments. It is the first company that has been built around Gulden’s blockchain and has been working closely with Gulden to provide new payment options for the cryptocurrency.
According to Nocks co-founder Roel Boer; the Gulden’s new IBAN payment option is “a first step to a much broader sense of functionality to be implemented.”
With the increasing adoption of the Gulden as a mobile payment option and the user-friendly infrastructure being built around it, it will be very interesting to monitor its development in the coming years.
