12 Jul Digital Agenda – Renew, Trust, Accelerate
On the 5th of July, the Dutch government published a report on the digitalisation of the Dutch economy titled ‘Digital Agenda – Renew, Trust, Accelerate’ (In Dutch).
In the report, the Dutch government states that it recognises the importance of the Netherlands’ digital transition and highlights the steps it intends to take in the upcoming years to take full advantage of the opportunities and benefits that the global transition to a more digitalised economy will bring.
The report touches on five key areas: education, knowledge and innovation, a fast and open infrastructure, security and trust, space for entrepreneurs and the digitalisation of various sectors.
The Dutch Ministry of Education acknowledges the upcoming changes in the employment landscape, which show a strong shift towards ICT skills. Hence, school curricula are being adjusted to meet this new demand by the labour market. Furthermore, the Ministry of Education is committed to implement new technologies to enable digital personalised learning for Dutch students.
The Dutch government also believes that the availability of reliable high-speed networks is a precondition for future economic growth in the Netherlands. Therefore, the government wants to implement a fast open infrastructure, for both wireless and wired connections, that reaches all households in the Netherlands. It has also started an initiative together with both the private and public sector to accelerate the development and implementation of 5G technology.
Confidence in the safety of the Netherlands’ digital infrastructure and data is important for both citizens and businesses. Therefore, the Dutch government is working to improve digital security across the country by investing heavily in cyber security projects.
Furthermore, the government wants to encourage start-ups and entrepreneurs by reducing regulatory burden for small businesses and improving digital services provided to entrepreneurs by the government.
Finally, the Dutch government is in the process of digitalising various sectors including healthcare, energy and transport to provide better services for its citizens.
