JUNE MEETUP HOSTED BY THE DUTCH PAYMENTS ASSOCIATION

13 Jun JUNE MEETUP HOSTED BY THE DUTCH PAYMENTS ASSOCIATION

Our last Holland FinTech Meetup, hosted by the Dutch payment association, was a success! The attendees were in to insightful discussion about PSD2, as well as for some very interesting pitching from four of our members.

This past Friday 9th of June, we had our sixth monthly Meetup of 2017; the event was hosted by the Dutch Payments Association at their headquarters in the financial heart of Amsterdam. This particular meetup had a focus on PSD2, how it works and how it will impact financial services across Europe. This issue sparkled some interesting discussion about the implications of PSD2 and how it works. Finally, we had great pitches from four of members: Bright Pensionen, Five Degrees, Temenos and Tapp.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome form our CEO at Holland FinTech, Don Ginsel. Don Introduced Holland FinTech’s ecosystem and gave some insights on why it is important to cooperate and understand the changes that technology is bringing to the financial services sector. Following that, board member of the Dutch Payment Association, Gijs Boudewijn, took the stage to also welcome the guests to the event and to give a brief introduction to what the Dutch Payment Association is, and what it represents to the financial sector in The Netherlands. Gijs also introduced PSD2 and its relevance for the European landscape of financial services.

Next speaker to take the stage was the executive advisor of the Dutch Payments Association, Max Geerling. This part of the event was focused on giving the guests a grasp on how PSD2 will be implemented, and what could be the implications of this for the payment sector of financial services. Max presented how PSD2 works on four different levels. These levels go from the directive level, to the regulatory technical standards that the European Banking Authority drafts, to market driven strategies and proposals, to individual members planning and implementation of the ‘XS2A’ APIs. The presentation sparkled some interesting discussion about ‘screen scraping’ and its future under PSD2.

The next part of the meetup featured pitches from the company’s members of Holland FinTech. The first company to take the stage was Bright Pensionen. Commercial director, Sjaak Zonneveld, explained why the aging population and the demographic differences between generations call for a sustainable and new way of approaching pensions. The next company to address the crowd was Five Degrees, director Bas van Marissing, presented a robo advisor system that can be implemented in three moths and can provide authentic conversation and help to costumers. Right after, Marketplace director of Temenos, Aaron Phethean, stated that banks want to buy and share software, and that the company´s cloud can serve as a market place for financial software. Finally, back-end and insight lead of Tapp, Bouke Nederstigt, presented the company’s contribution to the hospitality industry and how the young startup aims to give this business a solution to payments in a fast changing environment.

Right after the event finished, the guests were able to have drinks and snacks while doing some networking and sharing ideas.
