01 Dec New report assesses impact of tech trends on legal services

UK-based multinational law firm and Holland FinTech member Eversheds has released its Looking Glass Report 2016, entitled Raising the bar – digital technology & the enhancement of legal services. More than 200 participants contributed to the research conducted by WinMark in partnership with Eversheds. The report examines the trends and developments currently impacting senior legal leaders, both in-house, and in private practice, focusing specifically on the ways in which digital technologies are enhancing and transforming the delivery of legal services. Five key areas of interest for legal services providers are covered, namely:

1) The evolving role of in-house counsel, and the influence technology plays in driving and enabling these changes
2) The changing relationship between in-house counsel and providers of legal services
3) Technology’s current and future role in enhancing the delivery of legal services
4) The structural barriers hindering progress and innovation
5) The different approaches legal services can use to shift from delivering incremental improvements to realising transformative change

Key research findings indicated that the changing role of in-house lawyers is pushing them closer towards the US model, and further asserted that in-house counsel should be involved in the on-going process of determining which technologies will be most useful for them.
