This week the pound and the yen have hit an all-time low versus broadly stronger dollar. Some experts suggest it might have had different origins.
Meanwhile, Swedish authorities have reported a fourth leak on one of the two Nord Stream pipelines that EU leaders believe was the target of sabotage at the start of the week.
Lastly, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed treaties on Friday to annex four Ukrainian regions partly occupied by his forces, escalating his seven-month war and taking it into an unpredictable new phase.

  • Pie Insurance, a leading tech-enabled provider of workers’ compensation insurance to small businesses, has raised $315m (EUR 320m) in Series D funding
  • Berlin-based fintech Grover has raised another €270m in funding just five months after its Series C round catapulted it to unicorn status
  • Strike, a Chicago-based bitcoin payment provider run by crypto entrepreneur Jack Mallers, raised $80 million (EUR 81.5m) in a Series B funding round
  • AccessFintech, a data and analytics platform for the financial industry, has received $60m (EUR 61m) in its Series C funding round
  • Tech venture studio MPCH Labs has announced it raised $40 million (EUR 40.7m) in a Series A round to develop the next generation of multi-party computation (MPC) technology
  • Australian embedded finance platform Shaype has raised A$33 million (EUR 33.6m) in a Series C funding round led by Regal Funds Management
  • Startup Hadean has secured £28 million (EUR 31.8m) in funding to build out its metaverse infrastructure technology
  • Start-up-focused equity management platform Ledgy has secured $22 million (EUR 22.4m) in Series B funding as it looks to expand across Europe
  • Australia-based fintech Shaype has secured a USD 21.4 million (EUR 21.8m) in equity investment in a Series C funding led by Regal Funds Management
