Topicus buys BinckBank's Able

Software company Topicus from Deventer has acquired Able from Gouda, a fintech solutions developer for banking and insurers in asset management, savings and investment. The acquisition will strengthen Topicus portfolio for the financial sector. No financial details are disclosed.

Able delivers software in the field of retail asset management. Since 2006, the company has been part of BinckBank, an online investor bank from Amsterdam. In the early years this seemed like a success formula, but in 2012 there was a turning point and the company decided to stop the on-premises service and unsuccessfully put Able for sale. A new executive board was appointed in 2015, which announced the sale of Able as a possibility. Since then, the software has been renewed in architecture.

About 10 companies were interested in acquiring Able. Alex Timmermans, General Manager of Able, writes in a blog that it chose Topicus because of “a similar culture of expertise, ambition, solution orientation and no-nonsense.”
