During its 4th Quantum Scientific Council meeting held at its Paris headquarters last Friday, Atos, a global leader in digital transformation, has announced that it has made a significant breakthrough in quantum simulation by successfully modeling quantum noise.
Researchers at the Atos Quantum Laboratory have successfully modeled ‘quantum noise’, which elevates the realism and accuracy of simulations to unprecedented levels. Atos’ Quantum Learning Machine (QLM), its flagship qubit simulator which was only made commercially available last July, now has “advanced quantum hardware modeling capabilities such as physics-based realistic qubit noise simulation and optimization of quantum software for real quantum processors”.
This major step has been recognized by the Atos Quantum Scientific Council as a breakthrough in the quantum computing research field. As a result of this innovation, Atos QLM users are now able to optimize their quantum algorithms on any targeted quantum hardware. The Atos QLM is a formidable apparatus in major research programmes at universities and research centres all around the world. Quantum computing is related to advances in deep learning, algorithmics and artificial intelligence in a wide variety of areas such as pharmaceuticals and new materials; and is expected to be an indispensable tool in dealing with the future hegemony of big data.
Thierry Breton, Chairman and CEO of Atos, notes that the success in Quantum noise modeling compounded with world-class support from the Atos Quantum Scientific Council will enable “researchers to test certain algorithms that will provide future quantum computers with their full capabilities, notably in artificial intelligence-related applications.”
