Leading European vehicle-charging solutions provider, Allego, and Dutch payments consultancy Connective Payments teamed up to offer the contactless payments at the former’s fast-charging locations at Shell stations in London. Both debit and credit cards can be used, and the Europay, Mastercard, Visa (EMV) security standard is supported. American Express, mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay that are EMV NFC equipped, and other bank-issued solutions are supported.
Connective Payments gave guidance to Allego in understanding and navigating the complex and highly-regulated safe payments sector, managing the project and its implementation.
Since electric vehicle charging was a previously unexplored use case , the payments company designed scenarios and aligned them with payments schemes, agreed on a roll-out approach, and carefully selected a vendor to provide contactless payment infrastructure and an international acquirer.
Allego plans a wider, global launch of the payments scheme for electric vehicles, with intial roll outs in London followed by the rest of the UK.
