France’s Authorité de la concurrence has opened dialogue through a series of public consultations into the fintech landscape, with a clear focus on the payments market. Interestingly, the competition authority is also interested in guaging how newer fintech services interact with incumbent banks and how the competitive landscape is changing with new service providers such as big tech players entering the finance and payments landscape. With many services entering the market from different angles, some of which are not under the same level of supervision / relevant authority, a public consultation is a great way in which to test how the market is affected by these developments. Feedback is accepted until June 19th.
