Dutch investigation into Android smartphones leads to new lawsuit against Google (Maasschade Consument)

The Mass Damage & Consumer Foundation has filed a class action lawsuit against Google over its Android operating system due to a study revealing extensive data transfer to Google servers from Dutch Android smartphones, even with privacy settings enabled. The lawsuit alleges violation of Dutch and European consumer protection regulations. Unique identifiers enable easy tracing of user identities, raising privacy concerns. The foundation demands fundamental privacy changes and compensation for over nine million Dutch Android users since May 2018. The lawsuit is backed by a detailed investigation report, and affected individuals can register for the class action lawsuit. Read more

Public Prosecution Service imposes fines in money laundering case of ING subsidiary Payvision (FD)

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has fined two former directors of payment service provider Payvision for violating anti-money laundering laws. Payvision, a 100% subsidiary of ING bank, allegedly neglected money laundering controls for years. The investigation found that Payvision facilitated suspicious transactions, ignoring fraud signals and failing to screen some customers. ING’s acquisition of Payvision in 2018 resulted in significant losses, with the company predominantly serving high-risk customers in industries like gambling, crypto, and pornography. ING eventually closed down Payvision at the end of 2023 after investing heavily in technology and personnel. Read more
