Scammed customers and Bunq are diametrically opposed to each other (FD)

Bunq, an online bank, faces criticism from customers who fell victim to phishing scams, leading to substantial financial losses. The affected customers are preparing a lawsuit, alleging inadequate security measures and difficulties in contacting Bunq during critical times. While CEO Ali Niknam considers changes to improve operations, including introducing a telephone helpdesk, he maintains confidence in Bunq’s track record. Mambu to power Canada’s Brunswick Credit Union amid MV Solar UK launch (Fintech Futures)

In recent developments, Brunswick Credit Union is transitioning to the Mambu cloud banking platform ahead of its legacy core’s end of life next year. This Software-as-a-Service offering will power various banking functions for both retail and business members. The credit union, formed in 2022 through a merger, aims to leverage Mambu’s platform to its fullest potential once the core transition is complete. Additionally, Mambu’s reach extends internationally, with recent partnerships in Canada and the UK. Mutual Vision, a UK-based technology provider, has unveiled its MV Solar offering, a digital banking platform powered by Mambu’s core banking engine. This “bank-in-a-box” solution targets small to midsize lenders, offering advanced analytics, dynamic workflows, and enhanced savings and loans capabilities. Read more

Dutch kick-start European attempts at carbon capture (FT)

Europe’s most ambitious carbon capture and storage (CCS) project is underway in Rotterdam, aiming to capture CO2 emissions from refineries and hydrogen plants and store them in a disused North Sea gas field. The €1.3 billion Porthos project, led by Shell, plans to capture over 1 million tonnes of CO2 annually. It’s seen as a test case for the viability of CCS technology, which could play a crucial role in reducing emissions from industries like steel and cement production. However, there are concerns about the project’s economics and uncertainties around CO2 storage. Despite challenges, CCS projects like Porthos are seen as essential for achieving net-zero emissions targets. The Dutch government, which is supporting the project, aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly by 2030 and 2050. Read more

Debt is an increasing problem among the young: NOS

Debt is increasingly affecting young adults, with health insurance payments being a significant factor, according to NOS. Debt collection agencies report a growing number of young debtors, with some attributing it to a lack of awareness about entitlements, such as assistance with health insurance costs. Research suggests that many young people are unaware of available benefits, and some may avoid claiming them due to fears of repayment. Experts highlight the importance of financial education, noting that not all young adults receive guidance from their parents, especially in households facing financial difficulties. Read more
