Highlights from last weeks news related to fintech
New regulations, partnerships and technology developments. There is just so much going on in Fintech. Here is our selection of news, relevant for the industry.
  • Ripple fights back against the lawsuit brought by U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which also led to a crash in the XRP cryptocurrency market
  • Robinhood agrees to pay $65 million to settle SEC charges
  • Goldman Sachs plans to offer digital wealth management to Main Street investors
  • Coinbase, an online platform for buying, selling, transferring, and storing digital currency, announced to go public
  • The USA State Administration for Market Regulation launched an antitrust probe against Alibaba earlier this week
  • Google, Cisco and VMware announced that they are joining WhatsApp in its battle against NSO Group, an Israeli intelligence firm
  • IBM has announced its latest acquisition, Nordcloud, a Helsinki-based multi-cloud consulting firm
  • TransferWise, a London-based online money transfer service, is planning for a blockbuster stock market flotation
  • Citi, an American multinational investment bank and financial services corporation, is building a marketplace of third party fintech apps

The largest funding rounds we found from across the world
Where does the money flow? It is usually a good indicator for what is hot and what is not. To give you a view on global fintech investments, we have selected the largest and most relevant investment deals. Remember, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what we found, in the week going from 9 December until 16 December.
  • OneTrust (Atlanta, GA, US), a privacy, security, and data governance technology platform provider, raised $300m (€246.34m) in Series C funding round
  • Creditas (São Paulo, Brazil), a lending business, has raised $255 million (€209.39m) in new financing
  • Paxos (NY, US), a regulated blockchain infrastructure platform, closed a $142m (€116.60m) Series C funding round
  • GoCardless (London, UK), a recurring payments company, raised $95m (€78.01m) in a Series F funding round
  • Liberis (London, UK), a global embedded business finance platform, raised £70m (€77.32m) in financing
  • Pine Labs (Noida, India), a digital payments firm, has reportedly secured $75-100 million (€61.59m – €82.12m)
  • Bestow (Dallas, TX, US), a life insurance company, raised $70m (€57.48m) in Series C funding
  • Other funding rounds that caught our attention: Self Financial fintech secured $40 Million (€32.85m), Outpost24 security company raised €19 million, NetGuardians fintech raised €15.7M, SMEO fintech startup raised €4 million, SquidPay raised $2m (€1.64m)
