How Australian fintechs are planning to emerge stronger from the crisis (EY Australia)

In the fifth issue of the EY FinTech Australia Census, the market status of the industry is shown, with positive results so far. The study finds that the fintech sector is maturing, with 78% of respondents post revenue, strong growth in paying customers and optimistic for global expansion. The top segments are: payments, wallets and supply chain, lending, and data and analytics. In addition, the results show issues arising from the tighten capital and decrease of collaborations between fintech startups and incumbents. Read more

In a recent study conducted by CB Insights, an overview of the key investment trends, funding activities, and projections for 2020 is given. As main takeaways, the report suggests that deals and dollars could see a decline from 2019 despite deals bouncing back in Q4’20, seed/ angel share may drop off in 2020 while Series B rounds could gain the most share, and 2020 YTD has set a record for mega-rounds. 97 mega-rounds YTD in 2020 has surpassed 2019’s total by 5.
