The Dutch office of the global SME loans platform originated more than €200 million in business loans since its start in the Netherlands in 2015.
Funding Circle Netherlands reached a new milestone by passing the mark of € 200 million in origination as first small business online lending platform in the country. Since 2015 the Dutch platform helped over 4,000 SMEs thanks to more than five thousand individuals and institutional investors.
While the number of small businesses has grown steadily since 2008, they continue to represent a tiny proportion of banks’ overall balance sheets. And this while small businesses play an important role in the Dutch economy.
Folkert Eggink, Funding Circle Netherlands’ Country Manager said: “It’s fantastic to have reached this milestone only four and half years after our first loan. Next to the overall amount, what makes us really proud are the more than 4,000 small Dutch businesses we have been able to support in accessing the finance they need to grow.”
The thousands of businesses that obtained a loan through the platform are established Dutch businesses with an average of 14 years of trading. They generally use the funds for working or growth capital.
